Fijación del salario mínimo en los países en desarrollo. Deficiencias y soluciones

Es bien sabido que una minoría considerable de países en desarrollo tiene unos salarios mínimos demasiado altos o demasiado bajos. La autora se vale de varios métodos de medición para comparar los niveles reales que alcanzan en unos países y otros. Por otra parte, averigua si el salario mínimo es efectivo, es decir, si cumple su función de umbral salarial del mercado de trabajo. Después estudia los factores institucionales que dan lugar a dichos valores extremos y las soluciones que permitirían fijar el salario mínimo en un nivel más idóneo y eficaz.

A Case Study to Determine the Impact of Offering Selective Menus on Customer Satisfaction in a Health-Care Foodservice Operation

Abstract

In an effort to improve patients' satisfaction with healthcare foodservice, many hospitals are implementing a selective menu program. The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of a selective menu program on customer satisfaction in a health-care foodservice setting in Korea. The results of this study indicate that patients' perceptions of food and service dimensions are significant predictors of overall satisfaction with hospital foodservices. Patients who opted for a selective menu program at high levels of frequency showed more satisfaction with the selective menu program than those in the low-user group. “Food variety,” “taste,” and “offering nutritional information about menu items” are the key drivers of overall satisfaction.     

TV Ratings and Verbal and Visual Sexual Content in Promotional Ads

Promotional advertisements from the February 2003 sweeps were content analyzed for verbal and visual elements of sexual content. Nearly one-third of the promos contained some aspect of sexuality, which represented an increase over previous years. Duration of the visual aspects of the promos did not predict exposure to the programs advertised, as measured by Nielsen ratings. However, intensity of the sexual content significantly predicted exposure to programs, but only after removing the effects of frequency on ratings.

Su aparición en plena tormenta financiera, a finales de octubre de 2008, no podía ser más oportuna: todo el planeta estaba pendiente de la crisis y preguntándose, con temor, cuáles serían su alcance, duración y consecuencias económicas y sociales. El estudio trata de los factores causantes de las desigualdades de renta, que no dejan de agravarse en el mundo. Sitúa el problema de la desigualdad en el marco de la globalización de las finanzas, el funcionamiento del mercado de trabajo, las características de los nuevos empleos y las políticas de redistribución de la riqueza.
